What happens after I receive a vehicle valuation?

A member of our Vehicles Team will contact you to discuss the next steps, arrange a time for you to drop off your vehicle at the nearest John Pye site and answer any questions you may have before your vehicle is entered into auction.

Do I have to pay any fees to use this service?

There are no selling fees and obtaining an instant valuation is completely free. There is no obligation to sell your vehicle after receiving a valuation.

How quickly will my vehicle be entered for sale at auction?

Once you have delivered your vehicle to our nominated site, we aim to enter it into auction as quickly as possible, typically within one week, but this depends on various factors including vehicle type, documentation and information provided to us before and on vehicle delivery to site, and our auction schedule.

Do you collect my car?

You must arrange with us to drop off your vehicle at your nearest nominated John Pye site.

What documents do I need to bring to site with my vehicle?

Please bring:

the V5C logbook (if available)
all vehicle keys
service history and maintenance records (if available)
your photo ID
any accessories or documentation that could add value to or provide further background regarding your vehicle

Where are John Pye's sites located?

We have sites throughout the UK; enter your postcode to find your nearest John Pye site.

Will you run any checks on my vehicle?

We will carry out a vehicle history check before we can accept your vehicle for sale at auction.

What is an adverse entry on a vehicle history check?

An adverse entry includes, but is not limited to:

Insurance write-off categories A and B
Finance markers that indicate a third party has an interest in the vehicle
Stolen markers
Mileage irregularities
Vehicle manufacturer's recalls

Can I sell a vehicle that is an insurance write-off?

Cat S & N vehicles can be sold through our Auction Services; however, Cat A & B must be scrapped/broken for parts. John Pye does not sell Cat A & B vehicles as part of the Valuation and Auction Services; however, we do run ATF auctions separately from the Valuation and Auction Services and can assist with these types of written-off vehicles.

What if my car is subject to an outstanding finance agreement?

You can only sell your car once you have settled the balance due under all finance agreements; we cannot pay vehicle sale proceeds to anyone other than you.

Is my vehicle insured whilst on your premises?

Your vehicle is fully insured against theft and damage whilst on our premises.

Can used vehicle dealers sell at John Pye's auctions?

Yes. We regularly work with motor traders, fleet operators and other businesses.

Can private individuals sell at John Pye's auctions?

Yes. We welcome vehicles from private sellers, as well as businesses.

What happens if my vehicle doesn't sell?

If your vehicle does not sell at the first auction in which it is entered, it will be re-entered into the next available auction. If it did not reach the minimum amount you agreed with our Vehicles Team member in either the first or second auction, your account manager will discuss the options with you. If for any reason your vehicle does not sell in the second auction in which it is entered, your account manager will discuss your options with you.

Does my vehicle need an MOT to be sold by John Pye?

No, however, we recommend having a valid MOT for your vehicle to help boost its value.

Can I sell my campervan, motorhome, motorcycle or moped?

We sell a wide range of vehicles including cars, vans, motorcycles, campervans, caravans, motorhomes, plant, agricultural equipment and specialist vehicles outside of these Valuation and Auction Services. If you're unsure, simply contact our team: jpvehicles@johnpye.com.

Can I keep the personalised numberplate on my vehicle?

If your vehicle has a personalised registration, you may keep this by completing the DVLA V317 form to allow you to retain the registration or transfer it to another vehicle. Before we can sell your vehicle, it must have had a plate assigned to it by the DVLA, those plates must be displayed on your vehicle, and you must be in possession of the new V5C. If a private plate is not removed from a vehicle prior to sale, the private plate will be sold with the vehicle.

Can I watch the sale of my car in person?

You can view the progress of all lots in our auctions on johnpyevehicles.co.uk.

Do I need to clean my vehicle before I deliver it to John Pye?

While it's not essential, presenting your vehicle in a clean and tidy condition, with all keys, documentation and service history, can help attract more bidders and maximise its sale value.

Do I need to wipe the satnav or infotainment system before I deliver it to John Pye?

Yes, please ensure that all personal data is wiped from any in-vehicle infotainment systems.
